What about a short walk on a sunny Sunday afternoon?
If you are not a huge fan of lazy Sundays we can recommend a short and refreshing program in one of the most beautiful parts of the city!
The Gül Baba Street and the tomb can be found in the famous neighborhood of Rose Hill, not so far from the Margaret Bridge.
As you start walking up the hill you will immediately feel the unique historical vibe of the narrow street. It is really special with the old and colorful houses, in contrast with the beautifully renovated clean building of the memorial and the calm surrounding garden.

But first, who Gül Baba was?
Gül Baba, also known as Father of Roses, „was venerated by Muslims of Ottoman Hungary as the region’s “patron saint”, a helpful and wise bektashi dervish.” He died shortly after the occupation of Buda, and his funeral was so meaningful that Sultan Suleiman I. also attended it. The tomb was built between 1543 and 1548 and through the years it became the symbol of the Hungarian-Turkish friendship. The building and the garden were restored in 2016-2017.

As you can see on the following pictures, we choose the perfect day to visit this stunning place. The weather was really nice, warm and sunny. This was ideal to get a spectacular view from the top of the memorial to the Parliament, Margaret Island, and the Danube river. Not to mention that you will find almost the same view here as from the well known Citadel - but you can enjoy the landscape in a less crowded environment. The well-kept garden with the green colors of the plants and flowers brings fresh and good energies. Besides, there are a lot of benches where you can relax and enjoy the first warm lights of the Sun in the spring months.
These are the reasons why we think, this is a place you should not miss out!
The exhibition and the building of the tomb can be visited every day, except on Mondays, in the given Opening Hours.

We hope the place caught your attention and we could help you to spend your day enjoyable.
Stay tuned because in our next Instagram post we will recommend a beautiful coffee shop nearby the Tomb of Gül Baba!
